The University of Florida Center for Arts in Medicine recently held a two-day event to explore diversity issues through multi-media presentations.
The Diversity Project was held on February 16-17 at various locations in the Gainesville area, including the Thomas Center and the University of Florida’s Constans Theatre. Directed by Jeffrey Pufahl, the event explored and served as a platform for discussion on issues such as race, culture and diversity.
“I hope to contribute to a healthy environment for students, staff and faculty to express, dialogue and grow as one diverse community,” Pufahl said.
For the event, the UF Center for Arts in Medicine invited guest artist Dr. Kitty Oliver. Dr. Oliver performed her one-woman show “An Evening of Jazz and Multicolored Memoirs,” as well as two presentations: “Race and Change Across Cultures and Generations” and “Telling YOUR Story, Changing OUR Lives: Using Oral Histories on Race and Change to Make a Difference.”
“Dr. Oliver has tremendous experience in facilitating discussion around issues of race, culture, and diversity,” Pufahl said. “Her ‘Race and Change’ presentation will allow the UF community to engage in dialogue in a non-confrontational way and expand their understanding of the issues we face today.”
