About the Program

Welcome to the University of Florida School of Theatre and Dance BFA Program in Musical Theatre. Our commitment to risk taking and diversity provides an environment that challenges, inspires and stimulates creativity in Musical Theatre training. The program joins forces with the School of Music and a world class diverse faculty to give our students one of the most challenging artistic and academic training opportunities in the country.

The University of Florida is the state's oldest, largest and academically diverse public university. Each year hundreds of students audition into our highly competitive program. Four to five students are selected and invited to join the program capping the program to sixteen of the most talented students. Our program ensures individual coaching, personal attention and a quality education that makes it one of the most unique programs in the country. Admission into the program is based strictly on acceptance into the University of Florida followed by an audition before the faculty who will determine acceptance into the program.

The demands made on musical theatre artists today require a mastery of a wide range of artistic abilities. Our philosophy is to develop highly skilled "triple threat" performers with the skills and talents to ensure job opportunities upon graduation. The training of musical theatre fuses actingsinging and dancing into a single mode of expression. Our students must understand the unique relationship that exists between these three disciplines so that they can compete as performers in a very challenging job market.

An example of our commitment to our students is our New York Senior Showcase. Every year our students are showcased in New York by some of the top agents, managers and casting directors around. Our former students are working on Broadway, Off-Broadway, National Tours, Regional Theatres, Film and Television. Our consistent level of training makes our program one of the most sought after programs in the nation. I hope you enjoy visiting our site. Admission into the program is based strictly on acceptance into the University of Florida followed by an audition before the faculty who will determine acceptance into the program.
